Significant People in Georgia History

 James Oglethorpe

 Founded the colony of Georgia. He negotiated with the Creek indians. 

Tomochichi 

Leader of the Creek Indians who later gave Oglethorpe the land that is now Savannah. He was negotiated by Mary Musgrove. 

Mary Musgrove 

Wife of John Musgrove, the governor of South Carolina. She helped Oglethorpe gain Savannah to advance her wealth.

Sequoyah 

 She invented the Cherokee alphabet. She wanted the Cherokee's to be literate. She was also one of the founders of the first bilingual newspapers.

 Jackie Robinson

He was born in Cairo, GA. First African-American major league baseball player. He played for the Dodgers. 

Jimmy Carter 

First president from Georgia.  The Panama Canal treaty was signed in his time of presidency.
